The summer 2017 program is over. The schedule for the summer 2018 program, as well as all application materials, will be posted on October 1, 2017.
If an applicant takes a Seal exam without the benefit of the corresponding SILV class and does not pass, they will be eligible to retake the exam the following year at no cost if they enroll in the class.

Based on the content of SILV’s Audio program of intensive hands-on, total immersion training led by Peter Nordyke, Brian Walker, Martin Carrillo, and Clare Devlin. Topics covered include (but are not limited to) analog and digital consoles, system design and tuning, microphone placement, wireless microphone and in-ears, digital audio workstations, communication, and cue analysis and construction.
Lighting Systems and Programming
Covers all of the integrated steps, content and procedures from the industry and from the two-week Movers and Digital Media class. Movers and Digital Media is an intensive, hands-on, total immersion training program/process in theatrical lighting led by Brian Gale and a team of master designers and programmers from among the top tier of industry professionals. The Seal is a practical exam that covers (but is not limited to) the following topics: lighting networks, control consoles, media servers, ENET/DMX data distribution, LAN configuration, programming on a variety of major consoles (including EOS, Grand MA II, HES Whole Hog III / IV, Philips Palette VL, etc.) and a wide variety of fixtures, cueing, and more.
Based on the content of SILV’s Lighting Technology program of intensive hands-on, total immersion training led by Leonard Miller, Bobby Harrell, and Martin Crawford, and taught by master instructors from the top tier professionals. Topics covered include (but are not limited to) power distribution and DMX, conventional fixtures, moving lights operations, maintenance, LED technology and applications, trouble shooting techniques, and safety criteria.
Based on the content of SILV’s SFX program of intensive hands-on, total immersion training led by Matt Dillingham and AES. Topics covered include (but are not limited to) regulation and safety, creation, maintenance, and repair for effects including: low-fog, high rising fog, rain, snow, and interior application fireworks and explosives.
